Friday Night Lights
Last night was a great football game between Springfield
Catholic and Holister. This season the Springfield Catholic football team has
endured several injuries of their senior starters. The season began with a devastating
loss to the top ranked Mountain View that ended in a 40 nothing. Our boys
worked so hard and were crushed. They got their Irish spirit back and went on
to loose the next game. Still keeping their heads high continued to train for
their Homecoming game. The homecoming game last night was packed! To show their
spirit everyone was in green catholic attire. Before the game begin the
students all got small dixie cups full of flour and headed out onto to the
field. The students went out to the middle of the field to scream their Irish
chants followed by throwing the flour in the air. With that the game was on. I
love the enthusiasm that football games bring. Right of the start Catholic was playing
from the heart. They really wanted and needed this win. It’s always rough for a
school to lose their homecoming game. Catholic makes their first touchdown three
minutes into the first quarter. Just what they needed. Right away Holister
makes a touchdown. This was looking to be a close game. Irish
kicked in to high and got another goal. This game was getting to be a nail
bitter. Yay, half time comes and Irish is up 24-14. The boys all huddle for an
inspiring halftime pep talk with their coach. Back in the third quarter the
boys keep the pressure on hard. Irish up thirty to fourteen with a minute to
go. Holister intercepts a pass and heads all down the field almost scoring. One
of the Catholic players called a timeout and they all huddle on the field. They
all stopped got together and prayed before they went on. They were all pumped
up, intersected the ball and ran it down the field with four seconds to spare. Touchdown!!!
The game was over with the boy’s first win of the season with 36-14. This is
why I am so happy and proud that my son goes to a school where the kids are
able to learn and live for God. Their actions at the end of the game with the
students taking the initiative to stop and pray brought tears to my eyes. Way
to go Catholic on a great game!!!
