Online Friends

Online Friends

I always thought it would be weird to meet someone online and not meet them in person first. Well my time came because I met an awesome girl from Australia. We met through a Facebook group. The more we started talking we found out that we have a lot in common. We talk through Facebook messenger, talk on the phone and skype. She is a great deal younger than me so it’s nice to have some experience and can help her through tough times.  Because of our different time zones early morning and late night work the best for us. It is a lot of fun to learn how Australia is so different but yet has several of the same things the United States has. My favorite part is talking to her on the phone and listening to her accent and the different words she uses. Sometime I have to ask her what a word means. When its winter here it is summer there and vice versa. Last year for Christmas we sent each other gifts from our countries that the other didn’t have. She is going to visit this Christmas so we can meet in person for the first time. I have always wanted to visit Australia. I am saving to visit this nest fall. I am so excited because now I will also have a great friend to show me around. I am also very excited to share the new memories with my husband and kids. In January we are getting our passports and booking our flight. This will be the biggest trip my family has ever been on. We are planning to go in the fall because it will be spring there. We just bought new luggage for our trip. The trick will be fitting everything that we need for a week in them.  My husband and I are making this a surprise trip for our boys and for my Australian friend. I have made plans with her fiancĂ© to surprise her. She has taken time off work for the week we are coming. I can’t wait to surprise them all.

  1. That is truly awesome! When I was younger I had several friends online - 3 in fact! Two of them were from the United States, but one of them was from Brazil. He and I were the opposite of you two. He was older than me. We spoke quite often for 7 years then just drifted apart. Skype didn't exist back then and international rates were ridiculous so we just talked through Microsoft Chat (REMEMBER THAT ONE? I doubt it!) and AIM/ICQ. I wonder where he is from time to time and how he is doing. Keep your friendship going! Have fun meeting next month!
